Cheque / Current Accounts

Cheque/Current Accounts are transactional bank accounts that provide you with more functions than normal savings accounts. These accounts generally have higher monthly fees but they include electronic transactions, allow for internet and cellphone banking and some even have free cash withdrawals and deposits included each month.

Besides from Capitec’s Global One Account, none of the other cheque/current accounts pay any interest on positive balances.

Most of these accounts offer overdrafts and even credit cards. You must have a healthy credit record in order to open a cheque/current account (see your free credit score here) as well as meet the product specific income criteria. The cheque/current account you can apply for is based on your income but you may also apply for products in lower income categories. Please note that all cheque/ current accounts shown are on the all the inclusive/bundled monthly pricing package, most accounts also offer a pay-as-you-use option with a lower monthly fee but this can work out to be more expensive should you do lots of transactions each month as you generally will be charged for each transaction you do.

FNB - Credit Card Fraud on a card i hadn't received yet

I upgraded my credit card and fraud happened on the card that was still with the couriers and they had linked my cheque card to that card as well and transactions were done also from the cheque account. My question was who linked my cheque card to a credit card that i hadn't received yet and i was given lousy excuses, no apology from the bank what so ever. I then decided to closed both my cheque account and credit card and I want nothing to do with the bank anymore. They might have the best self service channels but their contact centre sucks. bad service, consultant drop calls and are very rude. I wonder if tehy listen to their calls or if they have Quality Assurance. But hey i'm happy with the bank i choose after them. They treat me like i'm their only customer.
